Areas of expertise

Rod is the Group Head of employment and safety and has particular expertise in managing employee issues regarding performance, misconduct (including bullying and workplace investigations) and fitness for work as well as industrial disputes and enterprise bargaining.

Prior to Page Seager Rod worked in Western Australia for a number of years in a top tier law firm and as an Industrial Relations Consultant providing on-site IR services in the mining industry. This involved dealing with IR disputes at a site level and in industrial commissions. This built on a comprehensive background in workers compensation law and in conducting workplace investigations including for WA State Government and for WA Police regarding bullying complaints against senior officers.

Rod regularly advises on industrial disputes, industrial action, and sensitive and complex employment issues, which increasingly involve bullying and adverse action claims. Rod has extensive litigation experience and regularly appears as an advocate in the Fair Work Commission. He has a particular focus on providing client training in how to simply and effectively manage all aspects of workplace behaviours without complexity driven by fear of legal claims.

Rod has tutored in workplace law at Murdoch University (WA) and acted as a Judge in Law Society Inter-College Mooting Competitions.
