Mathew commenced with Page Seager in 1988 as an apprentice and was admitted in 1989.  He became a partner in 1995.

Mathew specialises in personal injury actions, acting for most major insurers. He has extensive experience in advising on matters concerning workers’ compensation and industrial accidents and regularly appears as Counsel before the Workers’ Rehabilitation & Compensation Tribunal, the Supreme Court of Tasmania and Victoria, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Federal Court, in respect to both trials and appeals. He has appeared as counsel in the High Court. Mathew also acts for the Motor Accidents Insurance Board, the statutory motor vehicles insurer in Tasmania. He has a large practice in complex commercial cases dealing with forensic accounting issues.

Mathew’s experience also encompasses the provision of professional indemnity, public liability and general indemnity advice to many leading national insurers.

He is a past president of the Tasmanian Bar Association, a past board member of the Tasmanian Law Reform Institute, and a member of the Government advisory panel into Workers Compensation. In his spare time enjoys the infinite pleasures of the fermented grape and distilled malted barley.
