Overview

Tom acts for a number of major Australian workers compensation insurers and Tasmanian self insurers. He is a trusted advisor to his clients in respect of all issues arising out of claims for workers compensation both under the statutory scheme and at common law.

Tom specialises in workers compensation and advises his clients on issues such as:

  • catastrophic injuries;
  • common law claims;
  • recovery of payments from third parties;
  • contribution from other employers and insurers;
  • claims arising as a result of the death of a worker;
  • claims for stress related conditions; and
  • hearing loss claims.

Tom further assists insurers by teaming with them to provide regular training and support directly to their employer clients.

Experience

Tom provides strategic advice aimed at achieving a quick cost effective resolution.

Tom regularly appears as counsel before the Tasmanian Civil & Administrative Tribunal, the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the Magistrates Court of Tasmania.

Examples of his experience include:

  • acting on behalf of major insurers in the defence of decisions to dispute liability for claims through to arbitrated hearing;
  • advising insurers in relation to complex multi-million dollar common law claims; and
  • negotiating the early resolution of complex claims without the need for formal proceedings.

Tom is a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association.
