Overview
Kara is a Senior Associate in Page Seager’s Corporate & Commercial group, bringing extensive cross-border experience in corporate advisory, commercial contracting, and transaction management across Australia and the Asia–Pacific region. Before joining Page Seager, she served as APAC Legal Counsel for a global solar technology company, where she advised on revenue-generating contracts, marketing compliance, project development, litigation matters, and cross-border trades, while drafting and negotiating a wide range of corporate documents. She also managed and advised the board on key legal developments and regulatory issues and played a key role in restructuring the company’s corporate financing and corporate bond issuance.
Kara began her career in DLA Piper’s Finance & Projects practice in Thailand and Singapore, working on major energy and infrastructure financings across emerging and mature markets. Her early career included advising lenders, sponsors, and international financial institutions on project finance transactions across Asia, giving her a strong technical foundation that continues to inform her commercial practice.
After spending most of her career overseas, Kara has returned to Hobart and now applies her corporate and cross-border expertise to support Tasmanian and national clients with commercial contracting, corporate advisory, and projects and finance matters. She brings to the firm a global perspective, deep sector experience, and a pragmatic, commercially attuned approach to helping clients achieve their strategic and operational objectives.
Experience
Kara has extensive experience in the energy, utilities, and infrastructure sectors, having worked on complex project development, financing, and M&A matters involving utility-scale solar and wind projects, battery energy storage systems, gas-fired power plants, LNG terminals, hydropower assets, and major transmission infrastructure. She has acted for multinational organisations, independent power producers, state-owned corporations, export credit agencies, development banks, and investment funds on syndicated and bilateral financings, corporate and acquisition financings, and large-scale project financings.
Notable experiences include:
- (Energy & Construction) advising a joint venture in the reverse auction of the Victorian Renewable Energy Target 2 (VRET2) contract awarded to develop a solar and battery project.
- (Project Finance) advising the consortium on the project financing of the Frankston Hospital Redevelopment PPP Project.
- (Corporate M&A) advising a US-based energy capital fund on the acquisition of a 100MW wind farm development located in Victoria, with options for solar (22MW) and battery (12MW or more) energy storage systems.
- (Corporate M&A & Project Finance) advising CWP Renewables on various wind power projects from project development to delivery and post-financing.
- (Project Finance) advising the sponsors on the development and financing of the US$3.3 billion 2 x 1000MW coal-fired IPP power station in Java, Indonesia.
- (Project Finance) advising the consortium of Thai and Japanese energy companies on developing and financing a 388MW gas-fired power plant and LNG terminals in Myanmar.
- (Corporate M&A) advising an investor in relation to a proposed US$2.3 billion acquisition of a portfolio of wind power projects in Thailand from Wind Energy Holdings.
